25 years of clowning...

On Saturday, my dearest pal, Kerol, and my eldest son, Jesse, and I went to the valley to paint faces at the Scotia Day picnic. This was the 25th year of the event and my evolving and marvellous clowning troupe has been at every single one. It was a glorious day and we had our usual fun - it is intimate and lovely to paint the dear faces of children (and some adults too). They don't pay for the face painting - everything comes with the picnic - it is an old-fashioned company picnic and they do it up simply and beautifully. That means that we can put anything on their faces that they want - they can go into the swimming pool and come back for more! For instance, I painted about twenty-five tiger faces, a frog-face (yikes), a spider web across a face with a black widow spider, a beeeeyooooootiful giraffe, a zillion hearts, a spotty dog, and so on. Jess was asked and delivered a crocodile eating a water-buffalo!!! Kerol did lots of the teen crowd with her intricate and gorgeous arm tattoos. While we paint, the balloon man makes his twisted creations, the fish pond is hopping - there are ginormous bouncy castles bouncing away and a band is on the stage belting out those great eighties' songs. This is a food company so there is pop and juice and dogs and fried chicken for all. There are hay rides and dog shows and well...it is very heavenly and we're proud to be a part of it!
Here are a few pictures...(not too much time for these as we go steady for three hours)

I loved seeing the kids with painted faces at our local New West Fest on Sunday. One of these days I'm going to approach the face painters and ask them to paint my face too. I think it's one more way to stay in touch with my inner child (and I know she's still there). :)
